The new Air Support Operations Squadron Facility at Aviano Air Base, Italy, will support the U.S. Air Force 8th ASOS. This will be a Silver LEED design, to facilitate 24-50 personnel.

The new facility shall support the admin, operations, training, vehicle and equipment maintenance, storage requirements for the 8th ASOS. It shall comply with ASOS Design Guide criteria and Aviano Air Base Architecture Design Standards. Michael-Bruno’s role in the design of this project is to insure all aspects meet host nation (Italian) code compliance, as well as provide support in reaching the LEED Silver criteria.

Facility includes reinforced concrete foundation and floor slabs as well as columns and beams. The exterior walls will be clay tile and plaster masonry with a pitched clay tile roof. Additional work includes steel stud/gypsum board partition walls, metal doors, double glazed thermal pane windows, HVAC system, fire detection, fire protection and noise attenuation. The project design will comply with the latest versions of US Government Standards and Italian norms, as well as Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) UFC requirements, defined by the UFC 4-010-01.

Michael-Bruno is responsible for preparing all documentation and designs required in obtaining the Italian “Certificato di Prevenzione Incendi” (Certificate of Fire Prevention) from the Fire Department of Pordenone.

Fire Detection and Suppression Systems are being designed in collaboration by Michael-Bruno and Poole Fire Protection, to insure all applicable Italian and U.S. (NFPA) laws, norms, codes, and regulations are met.
